Before I started my internship at ExeQserve Corporation, I had three goals and expectations in mind. Let me share them with you.
One. To be assigned tasks wherein I could actually see their positive impact on the organization. I have heard horror stories from Seniors, graduates, and some of my friends with regard to their internship experiences in which their main tasks only include serving snacks and coffee (pre-pandemic), printing and photocopying documents, encoding, and creating PowerPoint presentations, etc. I was genuinely hoping that unlike them, I would not be another student who has her own internship horror story to share. Who wouldn’t, right? For me, this is because I wanted my practicum experience to truly mean something– for me to have a sense of purpose. I wanted to make the most out of this opportunity.
Two. To not only apply what I learned from my courses but also learn from what could not be simply studied from my readings, such as experiences. I am from a BA Applied Psychology program, so it is only fair that I could actually “apply” what I have been studying in my psychology courses, right? Well, aside from this, this is the main objective of our practicum— the practical application of theories. However, as what I have learned from the past years of being a student, not everything can be learned inside the four corners of a classroom or in the present case, our Alternative Learning System platforms. Anyway, my point is that in our courses, we have been studying a lot of concepts and theories which are undeniably helpful, but there are a lot of things that could not be learned and obtained only by reading and studying… And these are experiences. With this, I wanted my internship to not only be an experience but a good learning experience.
Three. To discover if I could actually see myself working in this area in my career in the near future. I started my internship determined to find out if working in the field of Human Resources is what I want for myself. I wanted to know if I could achieve a sense of fulfillment doing this work. With one academic year left before I finish my bachelor’s degree, I still have yet to decide on what area of psychology I am going to pursue or if I would explore further careers outside of psychology. I am yet to find out, but I was hoping that during my internship here at ExeQserve, it would be able to shed some light on me.
So, have I achieved my internship goals and expectations at ExeQserve? Yes, absolutely.
The ExeQServe Corporation has a healthy environment, which fosters learning, growth, and development. In here, I was given a lot of opportunities as I was able to attend training and workshops, learn from stories shared by various professionals on their experiences during activities in training, and develop a final output, which I could describe as the most challenging yet rewarding part of my internship.
I am yet to figure out what I want to do after I graduate, but still, this internship has significantly helped in resolving some of my concerns, gave me many insights, introduced me to new perspectives, and made me take a step forward from where I was… and for me, this is already a lot.
