Mentors and coaches are adaptive in their approach. They recognize the need for their mentees and adjust in accordance with the need of the mentee. While it is difficult to anticipate all kinds of mentoring and coaching needs, there are techniques that have been proven to work when used in accordance with the mentee’s developmental level. When a mentee is just starting to his/her developmental journey, he/she may have the willingness but too little of the skill, In this particular instance, a mentor must apply an approach to match the need. As the mentee progress, so should the mentor adjust strategy.
In this course, we aim to equip the mentors with the necessary coaching techniques to facilitate the mentee’s development needs.
Learning Objectives
- Appreciate the mentee’s journey from dependence to self-empowerment and the role the mentor play in that journey
- Identify the mentee’s developmental stages
- Simulate through role-plays 4 techniques like directing, coaching, supporting, and empowering to facilitate the mentee’s developmental journey
- Create a personal action plan to apply the technique in mentoring and coaching
