ExeQserve Recruiter’s Guidebook

In my 25 years of HR practice, I have had the opportunity of working with HR professionals in charge of recruitment. I’ve had the chance to ramp up a workforce from 150 to 1,000 in six months. I also had an opportunity of sourcing and screening talents for close to a hundred companies from various industries for 12 years. I’ve seen how the work has changed over that span of years. As technology advanced, people’s behavior changed.  They now have a better way of finding companies who might need their talents.  More importantly, they have a way of knowing in advance which company is a potentially good employer and which are not.

The competition for talent has been at its toughest. This is especially true for companies whose reputations are not at par as the more popular brands. The challenge for recruitment professionals has never been higher.   Back in the 90’s all you have to do is post your vacancy in the classified ads section of a broadsheet, and then wait.  Candidates will come from everywhere; qualified or not, they’ll show up at the door, or send their resumes via email or courier. The BPO industry started having an effect on the job market and competition for talents at the start of the new millennium. Online job portals became the preferred job-hunting routes. Fewer people were falling in line. Not only that, people started not showing up for interviews because they have more options, and they are easier to avail of.  With LinkedIn, Facebook and all other more convenient means to access talents, the competition shifted from finding talents to attracting them and getting them motivated to explore an opportunity.  Given all the things that are happening now, and the perennial challenge of hiring the right talents, recruitment professionals need to bring their A-game to work. They need to equip themselves with the right competencies, so they can contribute to organizational success by hiring the right talents on time.

I wrote this book because I feel that a lot of what talent acquisition professionals are doing came from experience; their experience, and barely anyone is consolidating and documenting it, especially in the Philippines. My goal is for the recruitment professionals of today, and those who are joining the fray to have something to work with or start with.  I want this to be a guide that will help the professionals in this field, and help them realize their role is important, and that the developing their competencies in this job is paramount not just to their career success, but also to the success of any company they’re going to help. – Edwin Ebreo
