For the fourth straight year, PERI Asia Philippines, chose ExeQserve Corporation to facilitate their May 24 and 25 team building event. It was attended by 93 employees which were divided into 8 teams. The event was facilitated by Mr. Edwin C. Ebreo, President and Founder of ExeQserve.
To maximize the opportunity for teamwork, we started the event right at the PERI office. We gave each team a list of tasks that they were to accomplish while on the road to the venue. Teams who were able to accomplish more tasks correctly earned points that contributed to their overall scores. In this team building event, we emphasized the importance of having both a competitive and collaborative spirit to win a game.
The participants enjoyed the fun-filled games that was prepared when they arrived. Like the road trip activity, the purpose of these games is to drum up competition and cohesiveness among the teams.
The day 1 session ended with a review of past team building events via a video presentation prepared by the learning and development department.
Our day 2 began with an introduction of this year’s team building theme: Drive, Deliver and Dominate – Demonstrating excellence in planning and execution.
To know what this means in action, the participants did a boat building and racing activity. Watch this short clip on what they did during the boat building activity:
As part of DRIVE: Committing to goals and strategies, we facilitated a series of beach activities where teams gather points. As expected, the participants are able to express their commitment to key team strategies and plans.
Deliver: Excellence in execution was done by an activity called “the shrinking island” wherein the teams compete to stay in an island that “shrinks”. As the challenge gets harder, the teams were ready to continually improve their execution which eventually resulted to winning.
The last element is Dominate: Developing a competitive way of life. At this point in the event, we emphasized the value of competitiveness but stressed that the real competition is outside the organization. Within the organization, collaboration, coordination and cooperation is preferred. We used the focus ring challenge to highlight these three values in teamwork.
As a culminating activity, the teams gathered and agree on a set of commitments they will undertake so that PERI may be able to drive, deliver and dominate the market. ExeQserve is looking forward to the follow-up session to review the commitments made during the workshop and cement team norms that lead to positive organizational performance.
